Ofelia Hooper



Ofelia HooperOfelia Maria Hooper Polo, was born in Las Minas, Herrera Province on 13 November 1900. His parents Mr. Hooper Irish origin, and Ms. Polo , a native Panamanian Las Minas. It was Master and Bachelor, Bachelor of Social and Economic Sciences, University of Panama, in 1941.
He spent years teaching, then went on to serve in the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, and specialized in economics and rural sociology technicalDriving and undisputed leader of Cooperatives in Panama.
Moreover, there is the medal Ofelia Hooper " cooperative merit.
It is considered one of the three pillars of sociology made by Panamanians.
Ofelia Hooper died on September 23, 1981

Dario Herrera


Darío del Carmen Herrera, born in Panama City on 18 July 1870. Son of Don Lino Clemente Herrera, a native of Velez, Colombia and Juana de la Rosa, a native of Penonomé, Panama. I was educated with great effort being self-taught.
In 1904 he was appointed Consul in Saint Nazaire, a position he was unable to exercise for health reasons. 
Darío Herrera His work, hours Lejanas , published in the early months of 1903 in Argentina, is regarded as the first book of short stories published by a Panamanian. He was gathering his best poems to be published under the title " Lejanías Women's ", a work that can not publish. .
He held a chair of History of Literature at the War College in Argentina, leaving work on his appointment as Confidential Agent in this country.
Collaborated in various newspapers and literary magazines of his time.  In Panama, New Rites and El Heraldo of the Isthmus. I also work in the journal World , directed by Ruben Dario.
Rodrigo Miró says of him: Good poet and prose writer best - its are among the most accomplished of our literature-Herrera had the passion of accurate and beautiful word. "He loved the limpid and crystalline phrase of Flaubert, whose mirror wanted to be in Spanish prose , " says Max Henriquez Urena.
